The Teaching Evidence Based Exercise course is divided into two parts.    Candidates may opt to study part 1 only in order to meet their educational and professional needs.   However, candidates are encouraged to progress to part 2 and so gain the knowledge and skills required to give advice and guidance to adults with a wide range of health and fitness needs.  

Coming soon - a CPD unit concerning teaching ante and post natal exercise. 

Part 1

This focuses on the needs of beginners to exercise, frail, less active and less mobile people and the prevention of falls and injuries. 

Candidates who study part one only will gain the Certificate in Teaching Evidence Based Exercise and will be qualified to teach a range of safe, suitable and evidence based exercises in a chair based exercise session:

that will help improve / maintain muscular strength and endurance, mobility, independence, balance and co-ordination and prevent falls and injuries

bullet

to wheelchair users

bullet

to frail older people

bullet

to people who have suffered a stroke  

Part 2

This focuses on the needs of the more active and able adult with particular reference to cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes and newcomers to exercise.

Candidates who progress to part two will gain the full Diploma in Teaching Evidence Based Exercise and will also be qualified to prescribe and teach a range of safe, suitable and evidence based exercises:

to newcomers to exercise

bullet

for people who have entered Phase lV Cardiac Rehabilitation

bullet

designed specifically to meet the needs of people suffering with high risk diseases and conditions associated with ageing, for example, coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity

bullet

that will help reduce intermittent claudication

bullet

that will help reduce risk factors associated with ill health by improving general health, strength mobility and independence

bullet

suitable for active older people suffering with low risk conditions and diseases associated with ageing
