This course is an HSE approved qualification which meets the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.    It is suitable for all people wishing to gain a basic knowledge, competence and confidence required to provide emergency life support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, but is particularly suitable for people wishing to become the First Aider in their lower risk workplace.    The course is based on the most recent edition of the First Aid Manual and will cover the following:

the unconscious casualty

bullet

the control of bleeding

burns & scalds

bullet

maintaining accurate records

bullet

techniques and equipment

.Duration of the Course

The Emergency First Aid at Work course takes approximately 6 hours to complete and includes both theory and practical sessions.   There is no final examination or assessment, candidates who demonstrate a sound knowledge and safe first aid skills during the practical parts of the day will be awarded the Emergency First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for 3 years.   The current guidelines strongly recommend that first aid trained staff should attend a half-day update every twelve months.
