This is an HSE approved qualification which meets the
statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid)
Regulations 1981 for the First Aider in the workplace.
The course is based on the most recent edition of the First
Aid Manual
and will cover the following:

priorities
of treatment |

emergency life support

 |
the unconscious casualty

 |
medical emergencies
|
 |
the control
of bleeding |
 |
burns & scalds

 |
injuries to bones, joints & muscles

 |
maintaining accurate records

 |
techniques and equipment
|
 |
the first aid kit and other resources
|
 |
first aid at work and the law

Assessments
As well as the ongoing assessment of knowledge and skills
gained, you will be required to take part in incident role
plays in order to demonstrate an active knowledge of current
recommendations concerning CPR, emergency life support and
first aid treatment. There will be three parts to the
assessment:

cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin - the assessor
will act as a willing bystander |
 |
the management of an unconscious but breathing casualty - no
help will be available |
 |
the correct treatment of a casualty suffering with one or
more of the following: |
medical emergency
severe bleeding
shock
severe burn
choking
sprain or strain
A first aid box will be available and
the assessor will be a willing bystander
Duration of the Course
The First Aid at Work Requalification course takes approximately 14 hours
to complete and includes both theory and practical sessions
and final assessments. The certificate is valid for 3
years, but the current guidelines strongly recommend that
first aid trained staff should attend a half-day update
every twelve months. In order to maintain the
qualification it is necessary to attend a First Aid at Work Requalification course before the certificate expires.
Cost
£160.00 this includes tuition fees, course materials and
assessment fees.
